چکیده

We investigate the angular distribution of gamma-ray bursts using the largest catalog of welllocalized events that is currently available—combined BATSE/Ulysses burst locations. We present the preliminary spatial analysis of 415 BATSE/Ulysses bursts included in the BATSE 4B catalog. We find that the locations are consistent with largeand small-scale isotropy, with no significant clustering or repetition. We also search for cross-correlation between the BATSE/Ulysses bursts and known extragalactic objects—such as Abell galaxy clusters, radio-quiet QSO, AGN and supernovae—and place limits on the fraction of bursts that could originate from these objects.

On the Association of Gamma-Ray Bursts with Supernovae

The recent discovery of a supernova (SN 1998bw) seemingly associated with GRB 980425 adds a new twist to the decades-old debate over the origin of gamma-ray bursts. To investigate the possibility that some (or all) bursts are associated with supernovae, we performed a systematic search for temporal/angular correlations using catalogs of BATSE and BATSE/Ulysses burst locations. We find no associ...

The Two-Point Angular Correlation Function and BATSE Sky Exposure

The Two-Point Angular Correlation Function is a standard analysis tool used to study angular anisotropies. Since BATSE’s sky exposure (the angular sampling of gamma-ray bursts) is anisotropic, the TPACF should at some point identify anisotropies in BATSE burst catalogs due to sky exposure. The effects of BATSE sky exposure are thus explored here for BATSE 3B and 4B catalogs. Sky-exposure effect...

The Ulysses Supplement to the BATSE 3B Catalog of Cosmic Gamma-Ray Bursts

We present Interplanetary Network localization information for 218 gamma-ray bursts in the 3rd BATSE catalog, obtained by analyzing the arrival times of these bursts at the Ulysses and Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) spacecraft. For any given burst observed by these two spacecraft, arrival time analysis (or “triangulation”) results in an annulus of possible arrival directions whose half-wi...

The Fourth Batse Gamma-ray Burst Catalog (revised)

The Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO) has triggered on 1637 cosmic gamma-ray bursts between 1991 April 19 and 1996 August 29. These events constitute the Fourth BATSE burst catalog. The current version (4Br) has been revised from the version first circulated on CD-ROM in September 1997 (4B) to include improved locations for a subset of bur...

The Ulysses Supplement to the BATSE 4Br Catalog of Cosmic Gamma-Ray Bursts

We present Interplanetary Network localization information for 147 gammaray bursts observed by the Burst and Transient Source Experiment between the end of the 3rd BATSE catalog and the end of the 4th BATSE catalog, obtained by analyzing the arrival times of these bursts at the Ulysses and Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) spacecraft. For any given burst observed by these two spacecraft, arr...
